Library Clerk Needed

The Scandinavia Public Library is currently accepting applications for a library clerk. The library clerk is responsible for providing library services related to lending library materials and handling monetary transactions at the library. Library services include circulating materials, answering reference questions, maintaining patron confidentiality, and assisting with programming.

• Candidates must be 18 years of age or older and hold a high school diploma or the equivalent.
• Courteous customer service, good organizational skills, and excellent computer skills are also required.
• Previous experience in a library or school setting is preferred but not required.
• Experience with children and young adults is beneficial.
• Experience in Excel, graphic design, website maintenance, and/or maintaining social media is highly desirable.

Training for library specific tasks will be provided.

The library clerk will work about 10 hours per week, including occasional Saturday hours. Additional hours may sometimes be available to cover vacations, illnesses, and other staff absences. Additional hours may also be required the first few weeks of employment for training purposes.

The library is open the following hours:
Monday 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Tuesday 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Wednesday Closed
Thursday 9:00 am – 6:00 pm
Friday 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Saturday 9:00 pm – 1:00 pm
Sunday Closed

The library clerk will work primarily during library open hours, with time for opening and closing the library. Special events may require working outside of this schedule a few times per year. While efforts will be made to maintain a regular work schedule, some flexibility in scheduling will be necessary.
